Hi-Lights: The Patriots
became the most prolific team in class A history
with a dominating performance at the state
tournament. MS saved their best effort of the
year to open the QWEST Center. Every wrestler
qualified for state and every wrestler
contributed to the Championship effort. With 12
state place finishers, MS set a record that had
been standing since 1960. The state record for
Pins in a season (327) and pins at the state
tournament (23) make this year's team the most
dominant pinning team in the history or Nebraska
wrestling. When the Patriots finally left the
QWEST Center, they left their mark on history!
Individually, the Patriots
crowned 4 state champions which is a school
best. Aaron Denson finished his career as the
state wins record holder with 155 wins. He also
finishes as a 3x State Champ and 4x State
Finalist to put himself with the best in the
history of the state.

Metro Dual Championships
Millard South 75 Bryan 3
Millard South 68 Bellevue
East 6
Millard South 44 Creighton Prep 26
Highlights: The Patriots
finish the year 15-0 in duals for a second
straight year and will finish the year at the
top class A team in the NSWCA State Dual
Rankings. Currently, the Patriots have won 44
consecutive duals. The Patriots also won the
first true Metro Dual Championships with a 3-0
tournament record.
By the end of the evening,
Millard South had pinned 22 wrestlers in setting
a new class A team / season pin record. The old
record had belonged to last year's Millard South
squad. The old record had been 280, and the new
record stands at 282 to date. The Patriot squad
is geared up to attack the all class record held
by Rushville. The current record of 300 is well
within reach for the Patriot team.
Individually, Aaron Denson's
assault on the all time win list finds him one
win short of tying the all class mark of 149. He
should be able to break the record at district
competition. Aaron is also at 30 pins on the
year which puts him within striking distance of
the current season pin record.

Griese Skyhawk Classic
January
28, 2006. Millard South finished 2nd to Skutt
Catholic
Highlights:
The team wrestled well despite a very hard week of
practice. It was a great accomplishment for all 14
wrestlers to finish in the top 3 of this tournament.
In the consolation bracket, the Patriots didn't lose
a match. In the finals, things didn't go as well.
Out of the 9 finalists, Millard South only won 3
matches. The team looks to improve this statistic at
Districts. With 18 pins on the day, the team total
is now 260 which is only 20 from the class A record
that the Patriots set a year ago, and 40 from the
all class record. Aaron Denson continues to build on
his class A record for career wins; his total stands
at 145 on the year, just 4 from tying the all class
record.

Highlights: The Patriots
won their third straight Metro Title and 4 out
of the last five Metro Titles. Stephen Medina
won his first Metro Individual title while Aaron
Denson finishes his Metro Career a three time
champion and four time finalist. The team set a
metro record by having all 14 wrestlers in the
Semi-Finals. This year's Metro Tournament
featured the top 4 teams in the state as well as
6 teams ranked in the top 10. This was the
toughest this tournament has been in many years.
It was actually a mini-state tournament.

Highlights: Coming off
of Christmas break, the Millard West tournament is
always a tough start to the new year. This year was
no different. Five of the top 10 teams in the state
participated in this tournament. The Patriots came
away with probably the most dominating performance
in the history of this tournament placing all 14
wrestlers in the top 3. However, the tournament
wasn't without ups and downs. On the up side, Joel
Torpy, defeated the returning state champion enroute
to a championship. Similarly, Mitch Jennings returns
from injury to defeat a state ranked opponent
enroute to a top 3 finish. Trever Spudich returns
from injury as well and shook off some rust in
earning a top 3 finish. Aaron Denson closes in on
the state record for career wins; his total has
reached 135, and the state record stands at 141. If
all goes well, he should tie or break the record
during the Burke Tournament. The team finished the
tournament 8-6 in the medal round; however only 4 of
our 10 finalists won their bracket. The team will
definitely be working hard to improve moving into
Metro.

Ralston
Invite 12-17-05:
Millard South
Varsity finished in first place with 309.5 points.
Highlights: Millard South finished with a couple of
school records at the Ralston Invite. 14 wrestlers in the
finals is a school record, and 11 champions is also a school
record. During the tournament, the team only lost 3 matches
the entire day. The tournament wasn't the strongest, but the
wrestlers all wrestled well on the day. Two fill-ins stepped
up big on the day. Todd Abboud stepped in at 140 to
finish 2nd and Zach Nielsen stepped in at 215 to
finish as a champion. Skyler Heckman had a
particularly good day defeated the 3rd ranked wrestler from
North Platte.

The team wrestled really well during the

dominate the competition like we did. We
only lost 7 matches the entire weekend. We
would have shut out 4 opponents had we not
faced the injury bug. 9 wrestlers were
honored as All-Dual Team members. The team
has now won this event every year it has

Coaches comment:
The team performed well for the first
tournament out. To finish up over 100 points ahead of
preseason #3 ranked Plattsmouth and preseason #1 ranked
Tekamah Herman, really shows the depth of this team. We had
12 in the finals on the day which is also a very good
accomplishment. 34-7 against tough competition is always
impressive. Individually, Greg Garcia, had an
outstanding day defeating the defending class C state
champion 13-6 and then beating an Iowa state placer in the
finals.
