Patriots Gear up for 2003-2004 Season

As the Patriot high school team enters the 2003-04 season, Millard South returns five state qualifiers from last season. Three of those qualifiers return as State Placers. Leading the way for this year's team is Jared Erspamer who is a returning state champion. Jared will try for a second straight state title this season. He will be moving up to 215 after finishing an All-State selection in football. Jared was a leader on the varsity team which finished 4th in state this season.

Aaron Denson returns after finishing as state runner-up in his freshman year. Aaron returns after a very successful off-season. He finished as runner-up in the high school division of Rocky Mountain Nationals and finished 1 match from All-American at Cadet Nationals.

Mike Santone returns for his season year having earned All-American status at Rocky Mountain Nationals this past season. Santone finished 5th at State just a year ago and will be returning at the same weight class this season.

Two other state qualifiers return as well. Jake Muirheid is a 2X state qualifier who should be in line to place at state after a very successful spring in freestyle. Jake is pound for pound the strongest Patriot.

Pat Doyle also returns after a successful campaign a year ago. Pat and Jake are both Juniors this season. Pat wrestled over 50 matches this past summer in preparing for the upcoming season. He hopes that the matches translate into a state medal.

Two other starters return for the Patriots this year as well. Curtis Miller will return at 103 this year after a successful first season a year ago. Curtis finished 4th at the Metro Tournament last year, and hopes to use a successful off-season to push him over the top. Brandon Atkinson returns for his Senior season hoping to get to state this season. Brandon will be moving up to 189 this season.

After finishing 4th this past season, the Patriots hope to continue their string of top 5 finishes with a 3rd consecutive top 5 finish this season. The team will need strong performances from a core of very talented newcomers.

The varsity will host Bryan High School for their first dual of the season, December 9 @ 7:00. We hope to have a strong following for our first dual of the season.
